Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Bookify (“Bookify,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) provides a mobile application that lets students buy, redeem, and read protected digital textbooks, shop for stationery, and use an AI study assistant. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect through the Bookify app and website, how we use it, and the choices you have.

By using Bookify, you agree to this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

2. Information we collect

Information you provide

  • Account details — your phone number and name, used to create and secure your account. We verify your phone number with a one-time SMS code (OTP).
  • Purchases & redemptions — records of books and items you buy or unlock with a redeem code, and your order history. Payments are processed by Apple or Google (see §5); we do not receive or store your full card details.
  • Support messages — information you send us when you contact support.
  • AI assistant content — the questions and book text you choose to send to the AI study assistant (see §4).

Information collected automatically

  • Device & technical data — device model, operating system and version, app version, language, and a device/app identifier used to protect your books and verify app integrity.
  • Reading & usage data — which books are in your library, your reading position, pinned pages (stored on your device), and basic interactions used to power features like search and “trending.”
  • Log & connection data — IP address and timestamps generated when the app communicates with our servers.

3. How we use information

  • Create and secure your account and verify it’s you (OTP, session validation).
  • Process purchases and code redemptions and deliver the books you own.
  • Protect content with device-bound encryption and app-integrity checks (DRM).
  • Provide the AI study assistant when you use it.
  • Provide, maintain, and improve the app, and offer customer support.
  • Detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, security, and technical issues.
  • Comply with legal obligations.

4. The AI study assistant

If you use the AI study assistant, the text you submit — your question and the page or passage you choose to include — is sent to our AI provider (OpenAI) to generate a response, and the conversation is stored with your account so you can continue it. Please avoid entering sensitive personal information into the assistant. The assistant is a study aid and its answers may be inaccurate; it is not a substitute for your teacher or textbook.

5. Sharing & service providers

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who process it on our behalf to run the app, and where required by law:

  • Apple & Google — process in-app purchases and app distribution; they handle payment and store account details under their own privacy policies.
  • Google Firebase — app-integrity/attestation (App Check) and core infrastructure.
  • OpenAI — processes the content you send to the AI assistant to generate answers (see §4).
  • SMS provider — delivers your one-time verification codes.
  • Hosting/infrastructure providers — operate our servers and store your library and order data.

We may also disclose information to comply with the law, enforce our Terms, or protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and Bookify.

6. Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the app, then for any additional period required to meet legal, accounting, or security obligations. When you delete your account (see §7), we delete or de-identify your personal data, except where we must retain certain records (for example, transaction records) by law.

7. Your rights & choices

  • Access & update — view and edit your profile details in the app.
  • Delete your account — you can request account deletion directly in the app (Profile → account settings). Deleting your account removes your personal data as described in §6 and revokes access to your downloaded books.
  • Change your password and manage your session from within the app.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (such as access, correction, deletion, or objection). To exercise them, contact us at the address in §12.

8. Security

We protect your books with strong encryption: each download is encrypted and can be opened only with a key bound to your device’s secure hardware. We use app-integrity checks to help prevent tampering, and we apply administrative and technical safeguards to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Children’s privacy

Bookify is intended for students and may be used by minors under the supervision of a parent, guardian, or school. We do not knowingly collect more information than necessary to provide the service. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has provided us information without appropriate consent, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

10. International data transfers

Some of our service providers (including OpenAI, Apple, Google, and Firebase) may process data in countries other than yours. Where we transfer data internationally, we take steps to ensure it remains protected consistent with this Policy and applicable law.

11. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Your continued use of Bookify after an update means you accept the revised Policy.
